Council Tax Empty Homes

You will have to pay full Council Tax if you 

• leave your furnished/unfurnished property unoccupied
• have a second home

You may be entitled to a 100% discount for up to one month if your property is empty (i.e. unoccupied and unfurnished). 

There are circumstances when unoccupied properties are exempt from Council Tax. 

Uninhabitable properties 

If a property is empty and undergoing or requires major repairs or structural alterations, you may be entitled to a 50% discount for up to 12 months

Long Term Empty Premium

If a property remains empty for 2 years or more owners will have a premium of 50% added to their bill.
