Last week’s jobs fair held at Burton Market Hall welcomed 633 jobseekers from across East Staffordshire, putting them in touch with employers and partners from across the borough. 64 jobseekers left the event with a job interview booked. In addition, over 50 were invited to attend open days and selection sessions hosted by companies in the next week or so.
310 job applications were submit at the event via Application Form or CV and a further 15 were asked to apply online for vacancies with Staffordshire County Council.
Employers promoting job and training opportunities were very positive about the event. Comments included:
“Good networking – made some good connections for future employment opportunities, some really good candidates who were prepared with CV’s and an idea of what they were looking for”.
“Well attended, great mix of jobseekers and spacing of stalls was good”.
“I had time to talk to candidates – it allowed them to understand if the job was suitable for them”.
Cllr George Allen, Deputy Leader for Regeneration and Planning Policy said: “The success of this jobs fair is testament to the hard work the members of the partnership put into organising them and I’m delighted with how successful this jobs fair has been.
“These events offer routes to sustainable employment which, in the longer-term, will improve the quality of life, raising aspirations and provide a better standard of living to local residents.”
East Staffordshire Borough Council works in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, Burton and South Derbyshire College, Support Staffordshire (East Staffordshire Community and Voluntary Service), and Trent & Dove Housing to deliver the Job Opportunity Days. More recently the partnership has welcomed Burton and District Chamber of Commerce to the group.
The Job Opportunities Days have been running for nine years and these events continue to go from strength to strength. The job fairs offer a range of job opportunities, training opportunities; support towards self-employment; volunteering opportunities and general advice and guidance towards making important lifestyle decisions.
These events offer routes to sustainable employment, which will assist in improving the quality of life, raising aspirations and provide a better standard of living to local residents.
